For San Antonio City Council, District 6 (Spring 2017)

One of our first endorsees, Melissa Cabello Havrda ran for San Antonio City Council in the spring of 2017.  In a word, Melissa is remarkable.  Smart, poised, and passionate about making a difference in her community.  She grew up in the area, earned her MBA and JD there, worked for the former Mayor, and now owns her own law practice helping people with disability and social security matters.  She was in the Latina Leadership Institute's Inaugural class, and a member of Leadership San Antonio Class 41. She earned the endorsement of a long list of Democratic organizations, Julian and Joaquin Castro, and the San Antonio Express-News, securing a 2nd place finish in a crowded May 2017 general election and earning her a spot in the June runoff.

Ascend was among the largest supporters for her campaign in that contest, and helped to fund Melissa's GOTV program in the final days of her race.  Sadly, Melissa came up just ~400 votes short of winning her election.  Undeterred, in our debrief with Melissa after the runoff, she was already talking about 2019.  And we plan to be right there with her again.
