For Pennsylvania House District 161
Leanne Krueger-Braneky represents the very best of what we at Ascend hope to see in incumbents. After a 15-year career in the non-profit sector, including building and leading the Sustainable Business Network of Greater Philadelphia -- which was named Economic Development Program of the Year by the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission -- Leanne made history in 2015 by becoming the first woman to represent Pennsylvania's House District 161. Since then, she has made it her mission not only to get things done for her constituents in Harrisburg, but also to pave the way for others seeking to serve their communities. She has been instrumental in recruiting good candidates to run up and down the ballot in Delaware County, helping elect the first County-wide Democrats since the Civil War. And when she was approached to run for Congress this year, she declined, noting that her work was not yet done building a Democratic legislature, and concerned that her seat would be vulnerable should she run for higher office now. Hard working. Selfless. Committed to bringing others along. Leanne is exactly the kind of leader we want to see in public office, and with her district still hotly contested -- she won by just 597 votes in 2016 -- we're excited to support returning her to the capitol.
