An endorsee with a remarkable personal story, Joanna Cattanach is a former foster child who has grown up to become an award-winning writer, reporter, and now professor of journalism at Baylor University. She is active in local politics, and is a leader on a variety of issues, from immigration to LGBTQ rights. One of the things we look for in our candidates is a record of inspiring others to action, and that's exactly what Joanna has done, time and again. Last year, for example, hearing word that a Trump-branded hotel was set to be developed in Dallas, she attended her city council meeting and asked them to block it; not seeing action, she started a petition, led a social media campaign, and pulled together 1,000 signatures, which collectively helped force the developer to pull out of the project. We're thrilled to support Joanna in her campaign for state legislature, which would make her the first former foster care child to be elected to serve in the statehouse.
