Andrea Jackson Barefield is a daughter of Waco with a passion for social action and community engagement.  She grew up knocking on doors for her mother – the first female African American mayor of the city – and has spent her career carving out her own legacy of service. Andrea has been deeply involved in economic development – heading Downtown Waco's Main Street program and now leading a regional travel and tourism organization there. She has also demonstrated her passion for the arts and for supporting young people in her volunteer work, having run the Debbie Allen Dance Institute, which gives underserved students the chance to train with world-renowned artists.

Now she wants to represent District 1 in Waco, an area of high poverty and disproportionately high unemployment, and make sure it shares in the growth and development the city is experiencing. Her incredible energy and deep roots in the community make us believe she's more than equal to the task, and is someone who can not just win her seat, but help bring back Democratic leadership to the city at large.
